7 Train

2013 - 2014

When I lived in Queens, I would ride the elevated No. 7 subway line and watch as the newly built high rises in Long Island City gave way to the suburban neighborhoods of Woodside and ended with the crowded streets and neon signs of Flushing.

Around this time, the MTA began putting L.E.D. signs on the trains to designate whether they were running local or express. Using the green ring sign of the local train as a symbol of the connection between these neighborhoods and people, I double exposed it on photographs I took during walks along the line. The effect also mimics the view outside of the window of the train in which the L.E.D. ring is often reflected.
